Recruitment Process & Tools

Resume Tips

Your resume is your marketing tool. It won't necessarily get you the job you're applying for, but it will get you in the door for an interview. Its purpose is to sell you, as a provider of your services, to a prospective employer. Every piece of information you include in your resume will be directed at making that sale. You must use your resume to convince two important customers to buy your services: Recruiters and Hiring Managers. Think very carefully about how you want to be represented by this document. Generally speaking, your resume should not exceed two pages (not including the cover letter).

The recruiter and hiring manager may have dozens or even hundreds of resumes to evaluate for a position, so your resume has to be concise and to the point. The Recruiter accesses all resumes through our online recruitment tool, so it is best to apply online by copying your resume directly into the tool. You also have the option of building a resume directly within our online tool.

Resume Format

Many companies, including Robot Investments, use online tools to accept applications and to help assess candidates. The most successful way to reach Robot Investments will be through our online recruitment tool, and our initial contact with you will be through e-mail. For these reasons, Robot Investments prefers to see resumes presented in reverse chronological order, using dashes rather then bullets when listing points. It's important to include an e-mail address when you're applying for positions.

Your attached resume should be laid out in this order:

  1. Contact Information: Your name, current mailing address, phone number and e-mail address should be on the first page. Please be sure to paste your resume, including your contact information, when applying online to Robot Investments.
  2. Skills and Abilities: This should be an inventory of your relevant skills and abilities.
  3. Work Experience: Tell us about your most recent job first - then work backwards. Include your titles, company names, locations and the month and year you started and finished with a company.
    • Responsibilities: Describe your specific duties and responsibilities. Tell us how your unique skills were suited for this job and outline the extent of your knowledge in each area.
    • Client Experience: Tell us about your successes and achievements with clients. Awards and recognition from clients would also be great to include.
    • Awards and Achievements: Did you save your company money? Did you create a new product or service? Did you increase sales or decrease costs? List this information as well as any awards or recognition you received for your efforts.
  4. Formal Education: List your most recent education first. This should include degrees, diplomas or certificates earned at universities, colleges and business or technical schools.
  5. Professional Development: This section should include career-related courses; workshops or seminars you attended that were not part of your formal education.

Your resume should accurately reflect your accumulated skills, experiences and accomplishments over a period of time. Your cover letter should be a summary of how those skills and experiences make you an ideal candidate for the position you are applying for.

Most importantly, your resume must be truthful and accurate. It is our practice to verify information on your resume before confirming our offer of employment. Trust and integrity are part of our shared values and we work hard to ensure that our new employees bring these attributes to the Robot Investments team.
